Edward R. Southern

Mr. Edward R. Southern was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. O.D. Southern and Mrs. Mary Estelle Southern, his devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Jo Southern (2008) and his precious 38 year-old son, Mark Edward Southern (2006), brothers, Hulen, Gordon, Solon, O. D. Southern; sisters, Hassie Sims, Eva Smith, Velma Simons, Ruby Rich. He is survived in life by one daughter, Terry Ann Tyler (Ed); one son, Mike Southern (Beverly) and one grandson, Hunter; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Fleming, Mrs. Dorothy Whitten, Mrs. Thelma “Sissy” Gilliland (Corley); one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn Drummonds (Bill); step grandson, Neil Tyler (Lisa); three step great-grandsons, Bailey, Drew and Cason Tyler and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is currently survived in life by his present wife, Mrs. Peggy Draper Sykes-Southern; step-children, Linda S. Snyder, Rhonda S. Carroll, Marlow W. Sykes, Rebecca S. Gray, Brenda S. Buttram; 3 step-grandsons; 3 step-granddaughters; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; and numerous step nieces and nephews.

Mr. Southern was born in Vincent, Alabama, graduated from Vincent High School, served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Southern was retired from Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Mississippi Power and General Electric.

As a member of Cropwell Baptist Church in Pell City, Mr. Southern very much enjoyed teaching a Sunday School class and was always available to discuss his faith and belief in Jesus Christ and he loved to share his personal testimony. Mr. Southern was an ordained deacon. Mr. Southern was loving, considerate, compassionate, patient, discerning, dedicated and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be officiated by Dr. Randy Hagan at Cropwell Baptist Church in Pell City on Monday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. Please join the family from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. for visitation at the Church. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jerry Rich, Leonard Southern, Vichael Fleming, Greg Gilliland, Drew Tyler, Bailey Tyler and Alvin Hoagland, Don Gilliland. Honorary pallbearers are Corley Gilliland and Jarrod Abbott.
