George P. “Mickey” Megois of Cropwell, Alabama passed away March 30,2021, at his home at the age of 93.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Irene Megois; his brothers Lee Megois, Steve Megois; sister Mary Davis; son, Michael Milton Megois; daughter, Christiana “Christi” Megois; father-in-law, Sylvester Stocks; mother-in-law, Christiana Stocks; and a brother-in-law, Gary Evans.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Margaret Stocks Megois; his children, Rusty (Nina) Megois, Paul (Nicky) Megois, Sonya (Chris) Bowman, Kimberly Megois, Michael T. Megois, Jacob Megois, Cruse Megois & 58 foster children; his grandchildren, Micheal (Hunter) Nesbitt, Michael J. Megois, Tony (Stephanie) Megois, Zachary (Brittany) Megois, TJ (Sandra) Elzey, Jered (Andrea) Elzey, Ethan Elzey, Cameron Elzey, Derek Brasher, Sarah (Adam) Zeigler, Tyler Megois, Dalton Megois, Janna (Chase) McGinnis, Austin Bowman, Nathan Bowman, Devon Megois, Logan Megois, & Andrew Megois; his great grandchildren, Samantha Nesbitt, Annabella Nesbitt, Ryder Megois, Emerson Megois, Briggs Megois, Caelyn Zeigler, Chassedi (Jeffery) Bice, Riley Sears, Jayden Sears, Calliea Elzey, Cavannah Elzey, Skarlytt Elzey, Jett Elzey, Emmalyn Elzey, Merideth Elzey, Za’marrian Elzey, Zaydaen Elzey, Colt McGinnis, and Maci McGinnis; a great great granddaughter, Christiana Bice; he is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bill (Barbara) Stocks; sister-in-law, Jan Stocks; and a host of nieces & nephews.

Mickey was born in Birmingham on February 9th 1928. He attended Phillips High School in Birmingham. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served aboard the USS Sigourney as the Master at Arms during World War II, in the Pacific theater. He met the love of his life Margaret in Birmingham. Together they raised 9 children and 58 foster children. He served as a leader for Boy Scout Troop # 199 for decades. In his younger years he enjoyed boxing, spelunking, cave exploration, backpacking, hunting and painting but, most of all throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 3 at 3:00 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

dear margaret,
faye and i loved mick so much and love you .
remember the many times i worked surfside telephone exchange and your telephone would lose service and they sent me to repair it.
i have always been a people’s person and i loved to repair tele service.
i knew mick when he worked for the yellow pages telephone director.
mick was a fabulous guy and strong as an ox..
you are always. in our hearts!

I was privileged to know and love Micky. He was a surrogate father, Papou to my kids and loved by all who knew him. Today my heart is broken, but I know he rejoices. He is back with Christi and sitting at the feet of God. Love you Dad
