Judy was born in Marion, Virginia on April 22, 1944, to Trixie Juanita (Pugh) and James Lee Cornett. She was a proud mother of four children: Kenny, Ray, Jennifer, and TIffany. She raised them with love and devotion in many different cities including Brownfield, Texas, Alexandria, Virginia, Rockford, Illinois, Phoenix, Arizona, Bayonne, New Jersey, Laurel and Wheaton, Maryland, and Rochester, Minnesota with her first husband, Kenneth L. Hunsley, Sr.
Judy was Short in Stature, but big in the Impact she left on you! Her eyes sparkled with wisdom and her laughter could brighten even the darkest days. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like they were the most precious person in the room! She loved to write poetry and was proud to win a New York Times poetry contest with her favorite poem titled, “Halloween”. She enjoyed listening to and singing music, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watching the hummingbirds fly around and “fight” over the feeders. Most of all, Judy loved spending time with her family and extended family sharing stories of her life! She was a proud mother, grandma, great grandma (Gigi / the real “OG”) and recently earned the title of great-great-grandma (Triple G). She ended every phone call, visit, and signed every note with the words “Hugs and Kisses”!
Judy is survived by her children, Kenneth L.Hunsley Jr., Raymond Hunsley (Vivian), Jennifer Hunsley, and Tiffany Hunsley-Hall (Bill); grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, Amberly,Benjamin (Hannah), Cody Sr., Jacob, Kenneth C. (Audrey), Daniel, Jocee, Harley, and Ryder; great grandchildren, Angela, Cailyah, Jordyn, Corday, Cody Jr., Aurie and Eleanor Jean; great-great grandchild, R’moni; brother, Frank Cornett (Zilpha); her “extended family”, Dani, Sharon, Ashley and Melissa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Max Evans Smith; brothers, Jimmy Cornett,Johnny Cornett (Judy’s twin), and Danny Cornett; parents, Trixie (Pugh) and James Lee Cornett.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later time in Rochester, Minnesota, where she resided for most of the last 30 years.
