PELL CITY – Funeral Service for Lawton L. Polk, age 98, will be held Wednesday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Valley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Polk passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018. He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Welch Polk; parents, Charles Ross Polk and Dovie Lovell; 8 brothers and 3 sisters. He served in the Navy during World War II as a seaman. He served on the NTC Great Lakes, Ill. and later on the USS Nevada during the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign. He received his Honorable Discharge in January 1946. He is survived by his son, Kenneth R (Lana) Polk; daughter, Linda Jennings; grandchildren, Kenneth Lawton (Misty) Polk, Surf City, N.C., Elizabeth (Stephen) Adcock, Reno, Nev., Lynn (Cecil) Peters, Lincoln, AL, Angie (Jay) Nolen, Oneonta, AL; 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edna Polk. The family would like to thank Rhonda Purdy, Joyce St. John, the staff at Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home, Wanda King and Jewel Chandler for the excellent care they provided for Mr. Polk.
