

Surrounded by his loved ones, Lowell Nelson Martin, passed away on November 11, 2025. He was born on December 21,1952, in Pell City, Alabama, to Homer Lee Martin and Lois Ventura Gardner Martin of Vincent, Alabama.
Lowell’s childhood was spent in Vincent, where he actively participated in programs and studies at Macedonia North and Calvary Baptist Churches. He attended Vincent School from grades 1–12 and graduated from Vincent High School. Here, he made friends who remain lifelong companions. He continued his education, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Jacksonville State University and his Master’s Degree in Administration from the University of Montevallo.
Mr. Martin was employed as an English teacher, counselor, and administrator for Shelby County Schools, including Vincent Middle-High School, Chelsea High School, the Shelby County School of Technology. Wherever he worked, he was respected for his dedication and professionalism by faculty, support personnel, administrators, and students alike. Parents knew that he truly cared about his enabling students to achieve their best in life. He set an example of generosity and devotion to his country by serving in the United States Air National Guard and establishing a V.H.S. requirement that every ninth-grade student serve one year in R.O.T.C., resulting in an appreciation and respect for our country's military.
Raised in a close Christian family, Lowell Martin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. It was common for him to see his parents helping and caring for people in the community. From them and his grandparents, he learned that loving God meant serving others. He is remembered for his integrity, kindness, and deep affection for his family. He followed in the footsteps of those who taught him to live with compassion and faith.
Lowell was an example of Christian strength, generosity, and quiet joy. His sense of humor, love of words, and natural desire to befriend people endeared him to everyone.
Lowell is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Kay Bereiter Martin;
his children, Shae Nicole Martin McKinney and Seth Nelson Martin (Morgan); his stepchild, Danielle Melissa Wooten (Clint); his grandchildren, Lance Nelson Martin, Aiden Lamar McKinney, Dominic Nelson Martin, Katherine Ventura Martin, Austin Lane Wooten, Olivia Shaw Wooten
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee Martin and Lois Ventura Gardner Martin and wife Susan Kay Wallis Martin.
