Marion "Ed" Edward Hudson
January 28, 1943 – November 29, 2019
Pell City- Funeral services for Marion E. "Ed" Hudson, 76, will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropwell Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Cemetery in Anniston. Ed passed away Friday, November 29, 2019.
Ed was predeceded by his parents, Henry Adglon Hudson and Dorothy Lee (Wade) Hudson; and his late wife, Helen Penelope "Penny" Mullendore Hudson.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Ellen Callaway Hudson; brother, Steven Wade Hudson; two sisters, Virginia Bassett and Cheryl Harris; two children, Stephen Keith Hudson and Kimberly Lynn Hudson Randolph; two grandchildren, Brandy Almeida and Karl Hurlbut; great-grandchildren, Brantley Deweese and Adeline Kate Almeida.
Ed was born on January 28, 1943 to Adlgon and Dorothy Hudson of DeArmanville, AL. After graduating from Oxford High School in 1961, he went on to be an Air Police in the Air Force, married his late wife, Penny, and to have children, Keith and Kim.
After the Air Force, he went on to earn a master's degree in Finance/Banking at LSU School of Banking while working for Jacksonville State Bank and Citizen's Bank in Luverne, AL.
After graduation, he assumed a position as District Director at US Small Business Administration in Birmingham and volunteered at the Birmingham Crisis Center for several years.
After retiring in 2008, Ed spent his time volunteering at the Big Oak Boys Ranch, received certification as a Master Gardener of St. Clair County and was an active member of Cropwell Baptist Church in Pell City. He loved gardening, beekeeping, hiking, the outdoors, wood working, aviation, fellowshipping with his church friends, spending time with his dog "Yum-Yum," rooting for Alabama Football and helping those in need.
In 2018, he married Cathy and added another daughter to the family, Traci Abbett, and a high-charged mother-in-law, Gloria Callaway.
In addition to being a dedicated, loving husband and father, Ed had unwavering faith in God which he shared with those who surrounded him.
