Ed was born on January 28, 1943 to Adlgon and Dorothy Hudson of DeArmanville, AL. After graduating from Oxford High School in 1961, he went on to be an Air Police in the Air Force, married his late wife, Penny, and to have children, Keith and Kim.

After the Air Force, he went on to earn a master's degree in Finance/Banking at LSU School of Banking while working for Jacksonville State Bank and Citizen's Bank in Luverne, AL.

After graduation, he assumed a position as District Director at US Small Business Administration in Birmingham and volunteered at the Birmingham Crisis Center for several years.

After retiring in 2008, Ed spent his time volunteering at the Big Oak Boys Ranch, received certification as a Master Gardener of St. Clair County and was an active member of Cropwell Baptist Church in Pell City. He loved gardening, beekeeping, hiking, the outdoors, wood working, aviation, fellowshipping with his church friends, spending time with his dog "Yum-Yum," rooting for Alabama Football and helping those in need.
