Melvin James Kennamer

Melvin was a calm and quiet man who found happiness in the simple things in life. He didn’t need much to be content. He enjoyed watching movies and could appreciate a good one, but anyone who knew Melvin knew that nothing compared to his love for fishing. Being near the water with a fishing pole in his hand was where he was happiest and most at peace. Fishing wasn’t just something he enjoyed, it was a part of who he was.

Melvin faced a rough road throughout his life, especially during his battle with cancer, but he carried himself with the same calm spirit that those who know him will always remember. He worked hard throughout his life until his illness made it impossible for him to continue.

Melvin leaves behind his wife, Kicha Kennamer, his sons Michael (Lauren) Kennamer and Steven (Megan) Kennamer; and his daughters Tina Kennamer and Michelle (Daniel) Kennamer-Gomez and eight grand children Gena (Will) Coleman, Kicha, Owen, Chloe, Oliver, Mackenzie, Kendal and Carson.

After everything he endured, there is comfort in knowing that Melvin no longer has to hurt or fight. His battle with cancer is over, and he is finally pain-free and at peace.

He will be greatly missed, but those who loved him find comfort in knowing that he is now with Jesus. We can only imagine him completely at peace-maybe somewhere near the water, with a fishing pole in his hand.

A celebration of Life for Melvin will be Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Eden Westside Baptist Church River Campus in (1441 W Riverview Rd, Trussville, AL 35173) beginning at 6PM.
