Dr. Melvin Scott, 83, of Cropwell AL, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan. His children, Vesta (Rodney), Todd (John), Desiree (Jim); stepchildren, Adrian and Melissa (Jared) and eight grandchildren.
Mel received his doctorate in Applied Mathematics at the University of Vermont where he was also a professor of mathematics, computer science, and physics. He also co-founded and was an editor for multiple publications.
Mel worked as a program manager for several companies, achieving notoriety for the implementation and management of a statewide telecommunications network and supercomputer data center. As well as mathematical support of fuel cells for the Apollo Moon Program.
Mel was an avid golfer who loved to spend time with friends and family. He will be deeply missed.
