He is survived by his daughter Carol White and husband Gary; son Greg Day and wife Lisa; son Troy Day; son Joel Day and wife Leslie; 9 Grandchildren; Darnell Allen (Pete); Tammy Godwin (Jimbo); Dr. Heather White; Rusty White (Valerie); Michelle Brasher (Neal); Luke Day (Candace); Elizabeth Day (fiancé Charles Wilson); Ryker Day; Colt Day; 12 Great Grandchildren; Gavin Allen; Mary Allen; Emily Cone (J.C.) Sway Godwin; Suri Patel; Lyla Day; Tyler Day; Tessa Day; Calvin Brasher; Mirabelle Brasher; Avery White; Emerson White along with numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Ann Day; his youngest daughter Amy Gene Day (Joel’s twin sister); his parents Floyd E Day and Alma Oakley Day; brother James E. Day; and sister Doris Day Franklin.
Robert graduated from Ensley High School in 1947; married Ann Barker on June 2, 1950 and had 5 children. Bob resided in Pell City Alabama since 1977 and was a devout Christian and Patriot who loved God, his family and his country. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pell City in which he was very active serving as an usher, active with the Christian Outreach, the Christian Love Pantry, and helped with multiple fundraisers including the Christian Outreach church “Bazar” and “Tablescapes” with raised funds benefiting the Love Pantry and Lakeside Hospice.
Robert worked for over 39 years with South Central Bell / BellSouth (now AT&T) receiving multiple awards for service including the prestigious Eagle Award which is not often given. He retired in 1987 from his position as a marketing manager working from the AOC building on Hwy 280 in Birmingham. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and boating on Logan Martin Lake where he and Ann made a home for over 40 years. He served in the Army National Guard as a radio Operator, the Civitan Club, and was a member of the Alabama Stage Hands union Local 78 out of Birmingham.
Based on Bob’s wishes, a family graveside service was held on July 27, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Al.
Pallbearers were Gary White, Rusty White, Greg Day, Troy Day, Luke Day, Joel Day, and Charles Wilson.
The service was directed by Kilgroe Funeral Home Pell City and led by
former Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church Pell City, Byron Vance.
Special music was by Janice Rivers and Kathy Alldredge.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations to be made to the 1st United Methodist Church Pell City.
Robert will be greatly missed by family and friends. We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We would also like to give a special Thank You to Dr. Rock Helms, Kim, Kristina, Katie and the entire staff at Northside Medical Associates Pell City for always taking such good care of our father as well as Compassus Hospice Care for keeping him comfortable in his final days.
