

Helen was born on April 14, 1930 in Geneva, NY to Sherwood and Clara Detro Symonds. She retired after 42 years as a bookkeeper for Agway in Penn Yan. She and her first husband, James R. Olney, also owned a dairy farm, before his passing in 1974.
She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose Club, and she was a devoted and active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are her sons, Nate (Wendy) Olney and Mike (Ann) Olney; grandchildren, Seth, Lindsay, Patrick, Jake, Nick, and Nate; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her first husband, James, she was predeceased by her second husband, Howard P. Flynn, in 1983, siblings, Mertyl Eskildsen, Earl Symonds, John Symonds, Bill Symonds, Wilson Symonds, Margaret Seager, and Jean Parmalee; and special friend, Mary Van Keuren Nielsen.
Friends may call from 6 to 8PM Thursday March 15, 2012 at Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Liberty Street, Penn Yan on Friday, March 16th at 2PM. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery following the service.
