She was born on November 6, 1923 in Berlin-Treptow, Germany, the beloved daughter of the late Friedrich & Gertrud (Haenchen) Fuhr. Ingrid grew up in Berlin and then met her husband Nelson, U.S. Army First Sergeant before the end of WWII in Babenhausen, Germany while staying with family. They were married there September 11, 1948 and moved to Elmira shortly thereafter. They were instrumental in bringing over her sister and parents, and the family is eternally grateful to Ingrid & Nelson!
Ingrid studied and had a short career as a pharmacy assistant in Berlin. In Elmira she enjoyed working in retail as well as helping at Elmira Schools. She was a wonderful homemaker, an avid cook, and was proud of her green thumb! Ingrid & Nelson were dedicated members of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Volunteer Fire Department of West Elmira. Ingrid was a very caring person to her friends and family and a devoted daughter who lovingly took care of her parents into old age.
She is survived by:
Her sister and brother in law Hannelore F. Wolcott-Bailey and Dr. Thomas H. Bailey of Penn Yan, NY,
Nieces Deborah W. (Edward) Kennedy and Pamela E. Farmen of Penn Yan, NY,
Great Niece Tonya M. Kennedy of Brooklyn, NY,
Great Nephews Dylan F. Kennedy of Penn Yan, NY and Alex Wolcott of Victor, NY,
and several cousins.
Ingrid was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Nelson A. Bystrom, in 2001.
