

A memorial service for John will be held on October 18, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. Inurnment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors.
John was born in Kingston, PA, December 16, 1942. He moved to Penn Yan at age 10. John attended St. Michael’s and Penn Yan Academy. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1964. John worked as a lineman for the Penn Yan Municipal for 15 years and for AES Greenidge from 1982-2002 when he retired. He was a member of the Penn Yan Hunter Hook and Ladder Company, the American Legion, and the Penn Yan Moose Lodge. His hobbies and interests included hunting, locomotives, WW II planes, and Ford Mustangs.
John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon; daughters Michele (David) Maus, and Karen Freshour; sisters-Ethel (David) Drasnin, Patsy Wiernuz, Joanne Wynn, and Janice (James) Reidy; grandchildren, Alexx and Taylor Freshour, Allison and Abigail Maus.
He was predeceased by his parents John Houck Sr.and Catherine Franek Elias; stillborn twins, and his sister Rosalie (Henry) Kohlege.
