Maxine G. Hopkins

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 4th from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. Maxine’s funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 at St. Michaels Church in Penn Yan at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maxine to the Yates County Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 391, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Maxine was born on August 15, 1920 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late John & Mary Dove Wichlaz. She was a Nurse for many years, starting as an Occupational Nurse during WWII, then as a Public Health Nurse for Ontario, Cayuga & Wayne Counties and was also a Hospice Nurse. Maxine was a very giving, kind person, interested in helping others. She enjoyed a good life & good times. She loved gardening & birds. Maxine was involved in many church activities, 4-H, Habitat for Humanity & Isaac Walton.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Nelson K. Hopkins; children, Kathryn (William) Kavanagh, Nelson (Mary) Hopkins, Michael (Ellen) Hopkins, Timothy (Sandra) Hopkins, Gregory (Dinny) Hopkins; grandchildren, Mark, Greg, Kristin, Rebecca, Nelson, Tracey, Damon, Carson, Nathanael, Zachary, Tiffany, Brittney, Gregory; several great grandchildren. Maxine was predeceased by her sister Lillian and brother Medford.
