
Mac was born August 6, 1941, in Corning, New York the son of the late Grace Traver Whitney and Victor Carl Johnson. He graduated from Corning Northside High school in Class of 1959. Mac had trained as a Journeymen Baker under Frank Ham at Tasty Bakery in Corning New York. He enlisted in the US Army and served Active Service from 1965 to 1966 during the Vietnam conflict. Mac was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Sharpshooter designation. In November of 1967 he became a Master Baker opening his own Bakery, the Plaza Bakery in Penn Yan, NY and then sold the Plaza Bakery in 1978. Mac retired from Hobart and William Smith College in 2009 after 22 years of service. He was a 45 year member of BPO Elks Lodge 1722 and a member of American Legion Post 355 and a past member of the Penn Yan Moose.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn Sutherland Johnson; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jacquelyn Johnson and their children, Zachary Nathanial Johnson and Alexander Daniel Johnson; his son, Jeffrey Lloyd Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Thayer and Donna Lou (Joseph) Vincent; and several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mac was predeceased by his brothers, Victor, Robert (Jana), Richard (Marleah), and William Johnson.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 5 pm on June 1st, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Penn Yan, 211 Main St., Penn Yan, NY. A memorial service celebrating Mac's life will follow at 5 pm at the Church.
