

Alberta (Abner) McLaughlin, of Pensacola, Florida departed this life on Friday, July 19, 2024. She was born on October 5, 1938, in Tunnel Springs, Alabama to Georgiana (DuBose) and Nick Abner. She was the youngest of nine children. At 17 years old she met and married Sandy McLaughlin and relocated to Pensacola,Florida. For several years, she worked cleaning private homes and waitressing.
In the early 1970's Alberta (and family) became members of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, she continued to be a member there for the remainder of her life. She loved the Lord and dedicated herself to understanding and following His word.
In her free time, Alberta also enjoyed gardening, reading, shopping and garage sales. She was also fond of collecting elephants for good luck, and if she'd had a choice, she would have only eaten sweet potatoes, watermelon and old-fashioned vanilla ice cream. Alberta was known for making the best pumpkin pie on the planet. Her favorite actor was Clint Walker and she loved the Motown sound of the Temptations.
In the mid 1970's she began her long career in hotel housekeeping, as a full-time housekeeper at Days Inn. After nine years in that position, she was promoted to Assistant Housekeeper. The next year she accepted a position as the Executive Housekeeper at Executive Inn. A year later, she accepted a position as the Executive Housekeeper at Hospitality Inn. Following thirty years of employment, Alberta retired in 2004 to devote more time to her home and family.
Alberta is preceded in death by the love of her life, Sandy R. McLaughlin, her parents, Georgiana and Nick Abner, siblings, Bessie Mae McMillan, Cemore Abner, China Tarver, Nick Abner,Jr. and Martha Tarver.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her daughter, Cindy Cupell McLaughlin, Siblings, Alma Allen, of Pensacola, Florida, Charlotte Smith, of Detroit, Michigan and Mary Jones, of Pensacola, Florida as well as a host of nieces and nephews, including Lawrence (Sheryl) Tarver, Larry (Patricia) Moore, Rocky (Edna) Moore, Russell (Lillie) Smart, Arlene Kitchens, Audrey Madison, all of Pensacola, Florida, Wendy (Fred) Walters of Orlando, Florida and Shanelle (Abner) Garrett of Augusta, Georgia, and she leaves two daughters and a son of her heart, Maria Armyn and James Thompson of Pensacola,Florida as well as Rumi (Cornelius) Green of Freeport, Florida.
The family would like to include a special thank you to her sitter, Choosey Johnson and the nurses and staff of Vitas Healthcare (formerly Covenant Hospice) for their excellent care.
A Visitation for Alberta will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534. A Funeral Service will be officiated the following morning, Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM, at Eastern Gate Memorial followed by Burial.
