Alta Stevenson Wood has gone home to be with our Heavenly Father at the age 86. Alta was born & raised in Salisbury, MD. She moved to Baltimore, MD in 1953. Alta married Robert Cox in 1953 and they had one child, Carol Lynn Cox. Alta, Paul, and Tina (Alta’s second child with her husband Paul Wood) have resided in Pensacola, FL since December of 1977. Alta was a hard-working homemaker and an active volunteer with many organizations. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove UMC, American Legion Post 240, and Grand Lagoon Yacht Club. Alta was the first female Commander of the yacht club and a founding member of Perdido Bay United Methodist Church.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband Paul L. Wood; seven brothers, Thomas Jr., Marion, Morris, Vernon, Clyde, Ota, William Stevenson; sisters, Dorothy Pusey, Helen Moore and Earlene Phillips.
Alta is survived by her two daughters, Carol Lynn Cox and Tina Wood; granddaughter, Breanna Dudley; sisters, Doris Santorelli and Hattie Shanks.
Funeral services will be held on June 9, 2019, 2:00PM at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church, 13660 Innerarity Point Road, Pensacola, FL 32507 with interment and reception at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, FL 32503.
