1933-2014
Annie Jean Duncan went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2014. Annie Jean was born on February 8, 1933 in Pine Hill, Alabama to Vagara and Mabel Lee Pearson.
She was the valedictorian at Pine Hill High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Livingston State College. She began her teaching career at West Pensacola Elementary in 1962. At West Pensacola, she was a 3rd grade and primary resource teacher for over 30 years until her retirement in 1991, at which time she was named Escambia County Employee of the Year. After her retirement, she served as the volunteer coordinator at West Pensacola and then Blue Angel Elementary. She was an active member of her beloved sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), where she served in many leadership positions.
Annie Jean was a faithful member of Warrington Baptist Church for over 55 years where she served in many areas including children’s ministry, women’s missionary ministry and the church library.
Annie Jean is survived by Wallace Glenn Duncan, her husband of 61 years, her children Wallace Glenn Duncan, Jr. (Susan), Michael Duncan (Patricia), her grandchildren, Courtney, Scott (Sarah), Colin and Brian Duncan, Leah (Brian) Powell, Gregory (Teresa) Smith, great granddaughters Reagan Smith and Hadley Duncan, brothers and sisters, Robert (Myra) Pearson, Emmie Lou Autry, Jack (Carole) Pearson, TE Pearson, Ledonia (Bob) Wise and a large extended family.
Annie Jean loved life and loved her family. She loved to laugh, travel, make crafts, teach and mentor others. She had an inquiring mind and never sat still for very long. Her compassionate and giving spirit was demonstrated by the time and hours of service she so willingly gave to others. She will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 9:00am followed by the funeral service at 10:00 at Warrington Baptist Church, 103 W. Winthrop Avenue in Pensacola. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice at www.covenanthospice.org/donate. Arrangements entrusted to Eastern Gate Funeral Home.
