Barbara Kaye Mountcastle

She graduated Crestview High School in Crestview, FL. Paving the path for her sister, Marsha, she was voted “wittiest” in her senior class.

A natural-born singer, Kaye was singing from the moment she was born until her last few weeks of life. She had a light, yet soulful soprano voice. She enjoyed singing in all kinds of situations, including for her nurses at The Havens of Pensacola, and the medical staff at Sacred Heart Hospital during her hospital stays. For years, she used her voice for healing and for good in her community.

She had a big heart and therefore wanted to comfort people as much as she could. At one point, she worked as a volunteer for an emergency program dealing only with comfort in cases of emergency. She kept stuffed animals in her car so she could comfort victims of car wrecks and other emergency situations until help arrived.

In her much younger years, she was a volunteer “candy striper” in her local hospitals. She provided compassion, support, and companionship to patients, and other individuals involved in the healthcare system.

She was a funny lady who preferred for people to stay as “jolly” as they could. She always enjoyed wearing and decorating in bright, cheerful colors. She believed that being positive and spending time by the water could heal one’s soul. She spent many moments, even in her later years, down near the water at sunset time.

Most people who took the time to know her really loved her. She always greeted them with a smile and tried to encourage them, no matter what they were facing. When one of her daughters was recovering from surgery, she said, “You have to imagine yourself well.”

She really loved cute, little piggies. She always wanted to try to have a chance to pet one. Though she may not have been able to in this life, we know that she is now in a place where there is no pain, and she is petting all the little piggies by the perfect sunset in the sky.

Kaye is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William “Monty” Wallace Mountcastle, Jr., and her sister, Marsha Karen Griffin, and is survived by her daughters, Dasha Teelin and Cathleena Mountcastle, her son-in-law, Andrew Bennett, two granddaughters, Olivia and Ava, and a young grandson, Clark, four step-children, Christine, Susan, Greg and Eric, a big, brown family dog named Chunky, and a new black and white family puppy named Chelsea, all of whom she loved.
