

Barbara was born to Clinton Ross Walker and Letha Pearl Herring “Ellis” and grew up in Pensacola, FL. From an early age, she was full of life and personality - even serving as a school mascot and majorette for Brentwood Jr. High while in the first grade. She once
dreamed of becoming a teacher, a reflection of her lifelong desire to encourage and uplift others.
She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and friend to many. The day she met her husband, Richard D. Pitts, was one of her most treasured memories, as she lovingly described him as her soulmate
Barbara dedicated much of her professional life to hard work, growth, and service. She began her career at the University of West Florida, where she steadily advanced in responsibility, ultimately serving in roles that included Secretary IV with University Police
and participation on key university committees, including the Equal Opportunity Committee and Auxiliary Services Committee. Her commitment and work ethic earned her promotions and the respect of those she worked alongside.
She further served with the State of Florida before continuing her career with Liberty National Life Insurance Company, where she achieved outstanding success. Barbara consistently ranked among the top producers in her field for many years and earned numerous awards recognizing her performance. She was also selected at a national level to contribute to the revision of continuing education materials for the Life Underwriters Training Council - an accomplishment that reflected both her expertise and her influence in her profession. Even after retirement, Barbara returned to work, continuing to contribute before ultimately retiring a second time.
A lifelong learner, Barbara completed numerous courses and certifications throughout her life, including studies in business, communication, management, and professional development through Pensacola Junior College, the University of West Florida, and other institutions. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, reflecting her commitment to service and community.
Outside of her career, Barbara embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She enjoyed fishing, car racing, football, and baseball, and was known for her sense of humor and love of laughter. Her favorite color was blue, and she found enjoyment in music, especially songs like "Walk Into the Garden," "Long Road to Eden," and "It’s Your World Now."
Barbara had a heart for others and gave generously of her time. She supported those in need in many ways, including helping provide food, assisting families in difficult situations, and caring for others during times of hardship. She believed in lifting people up and making a difference wherever she could.
Barbara will be remembered for her strength, kindness, perseverance, and the lasting impact she made on those around her.
She is survived by her siblings, Clinton Vann Walker and Donna Walker, and Annette V. King, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Ross Walker and Letha Pearl Herring, and her beloved husband, Richard D. Pitts.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home with a reception to follow after interment. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
