Robert “Bert” Curry Jones, (91) passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, after a full life. Born in Pensacola Florida on August 3, 1933 to Agnes Curry Jones and Richard William Jones, Sr, he was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a proud patriot.
Bert graduated from Pensacola High School and the University of Florida remaining a Gator fan for life, proudly displaying his flag and wearing his Gator apparel for each game. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War as a translator.
Following his military service, he began his career with Pure Oil Company, which sold to Union Oil in 1965. He remained there for over 35 years retiring in 1993. Bert had the distinguished honor of being known as “Mr. Wingtips” for his shoes of choice.
In 1961 he married Dolores Rance. They moved many times over the years before settling in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1981. Bert was a top tennis player capturing an amazing collection of trophies over the years. He loved working in his yard and growing the tastiest tomatoes. He was known as “Buddy Bert” to his grandchildren.
Bert is preceded in death by his parents, sister Agnes Curry Beal and brother Richard William Jones Jr and wife Dolores Jones.
He is survived by his daughters Victoria Marie Jones and Denise Elaine Browning (Steve Sumell), grandchildren William Curry Browning and Holt Elaine Bolton (Brandon) and one great-grandchild, Barron Charles Bolton.
Bert will be buried in Pensacola, Florida’s Bayview Memorial Park. A service and celebration of his life will be held on Friday July 11th at 11:00 am at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway, officiated by his nephew Rich Beal. Visitation will precede the service.
