1931-2019
Betty Jean Blackmon entered into her eternal rest March 12, 2019. She was surrounded by her
loving children.
Betty was born on January 15, 1931 in Columbus, Mississippi, the daughter of Pervy Daniel
Crawford and Mary Frances McGee. She was one of 11 children.
She and her beloved husband, Sam, spent a lot of years travelling the world with the USAF.
When they finally settled down they chose Pensacola, Florida as the place to put down roots.
She was an avid gardener and tended her yard with tender loving care. Betty was a people
person and attracted folks from many walks of life. She was most comfortable entertaining them
in her own backyard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, most of her siblings, husband, Samuel Lamar
Blackmon, her son, Samuel Lamar Blackmon II, son-in-law, Dale Carstensen, granddaughter,
Tracy Carstensen and great-grandson, Brett Waterbury.
Survivors include daughters: Barb Carstensen, Donna Robbins and husband, Dave, Debbie
Westerfeld and husband, Mark; son, Donald Blackmon and wife, Christine. She is also survived
by 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, her sister, Peggy
Haynes and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Hospice of Mercy for all
the loving care and friendship afforded to Mom during the difficult journey she has completed.
Also, to all our friends and family for their loving support and prayers. A private family viewing will be held 9-10am followed by a closed casket visitation from 10-12 Friday, March 22 with funeral service to follow at 12 noon at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, Pensacola, Florida. A private interment is at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Leon and Colby Robbins, Robbie Kruthaupt, Ben Westerfeld, Drew and Cody Blackmon, Samuel Blackmon III, Joshua McGuire and Preston Waterbury. David Shofner will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.
