Betty O. Hood Gibbs

1912 - 2011

Mrs. Betty O. Gibbs born Sept.17, 1912 died Sept.1, 20011. Mrs. Gibbs was a native of Fulton County Ga. and has been a resident of Pensacola, Fl., since 1947. She moved to Pensacola from Atlanta, Ga. She is a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and Georgia State University.

Mrs. Gibbs began her teaching career in Fulton County, Georgia, and then taught 28 years in Escambia County, Fl.

She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Fl. A member of the Florida Retired Educators Association and the Escambia County Retired Education Association. Mrs. Gibbs is a lifetime member of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, an international honorary sorority for women educators.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Frank B. Gibbs.

Survivors include a brother, D.P. Hood (Rose) of Fayetteville, Ga; nieces, Kaye Little( Shannon) of Pensacola Fl., Beth Cooper (Bill) of Wadley, Ga. and Anna Hood of Atlanta, Ga; nephew, Charlie Hood (Dianne) of Fayetteville, Ga., and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 04, 2011 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Dr. Barry Howard officiating.

Interment will be at College Park Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
