Catherine L. Armstrong

June 3, 1939December 17, 2013

Catherine “Cathie” Laverne Armstrong (Meme, Grandma) passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on December 17, 2013 at the age of 74. Cathie was born in Pensacola, Florida to Ms. Doris Schneider and adopted by Mr. Willie W. Salter and Mrs. Dovie R. Salter. She has called Pensacola home for most of her life.

Cathie met the love of her life Jodie Henry Armstrong (Pop) at Sanders Beach and they married in 1958. Jodie and Cathie shared 55 years of love and devotion, together they raised three loving daughters; Teresa, Becky and Sharon. Jodie was a retired Pensacola Police Department officer and Cathie and Jodie opened their home to many officers at all hours on-duty or off. Cathie always had something in the crock pot for anyone who stopped by at any hour. Cathie lost her love Jodie unexpectedly in June, 2013 and now they will again be together.

Cathie graduated from Pensacola High School in 1957 then went to work for AT&T/BellSouth, she retired in 1990. She then began a career as a caretaker for the elderly and retired again in 2009. Cathie was very outgoing and outspoken and she never met a stranger. She spent her life helping others. She loved to travel, camp, and spending time with friends, but nothing brought her greater joy and happiness than spending time with Jodie, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their puppies. Sundays and holidays at their home (a/k/a 410) were always filled with love, laughter, and Pop and Meme’s Sunday Dinner Specials. Over the years countless numbers of family and friends have enjoyed great food, fun, love and chaos at 410.

She is survived by: Her Children: Teresa L. Shows (Gregory N. Shows, Sr.) Gulf Breeze, FL; Becky R. Cook (Rickey E. Cook, Sr.) Pensacola, FL; Sharon K. Davis, Pensacola, FL. Grandchildren: Cpt. I was heart broken to read about Cathie. She and I worked together and were friends at Southern Bell. I loved her dearly! I know the family is crushed to lose such a treasure but you will always have those memories of both your Mom & Dad. Remember, love never dies. Jodie & Cathie together, again.

My Dear Friend Teresa; I send you all of my love during this difficult time and know your mother is looking over you now as always. Everyone who met your mom loved her and she was the most caring and decent person anyone could ever meet. I am so sorry for your loss and send you mine and Jeff's love along with Christopher.

Cathy was the person I loved to talk to find anyone in our family or help me tell everybody in the family news that mighy help or brighten someone's day.Her and my late cousin Jodie was the most lovable people in the Armstrong family.
