Mr. Charles Bryon Metcalf, Jr. peacefully passed away on January 14, 2023, with his wife of 70 years, Jeanette Metcalf, holding his hand. He was at their home of 50 years, surrounded by his family who deeply loved their Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
Charles was born May 16,1932 in Arlington, Texas. He honorably served in the USAF and he earned his electrical engineering degree from the University of Houston, graduating cum laude. Charles married
the love of his life, the former Jeanette Ladner, on February 7, 1953 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Charles is survived by his wife Jeanette, his daughter, Debbie Hallford (Donald), his son, Randy Metcalf and his
youngest daughter, Nancy Gray (Brad). Charles was the very proud Grandpa of 9 grandchildren: Jason Hallford, Lauren Hallford, Tyler Hallford, Colin Metcalf (Katerina), Paxton Metcalf (Sabrina), Madison
Metcalf, C. Bradley Gray (Charlotte), William Gray (Emily) and Catherine Gray. He was also the Great Grandfather of Lewis and Davis Metcalf, sons of Paxton and Sabrina Metcalf. Charles deeply loved his children, grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His family greatly appreciates his love, his generous life, his kind example and his humble spirit. His love was most evident with his relationship with his wife Jeanette. His devotion and care for Jeanette was always evident throughout their seventy years of marriage.
Charles was an entrepreneurial engineer and loved to develop solutions and tinker with his inventions. He started his company, CB Metcalf Company, in 1966 in Pensacola, Florida, and later moved to Cantonment. In his professional world he was known as “Chuck” Metcalf and diligently served the needs of his Gulf Coast industrial customers for over 56 years. Chuck was very proud of his company and was deeply grateful to the employees that helped his company succeed.
Charles was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist and First Baptist Church of Pensacola. He and Jeanette worked with the youth group at Hillcrest for many years. He loved Pensacola Beach where he and Jeanette owned a beach house for over 30 years. His favorite pastimes while living and vacationing at Pensacola Beach were watching the Blue Angels, Fourth of July shrimp boils, bike rides with his
grandchildren and watching God’s beautiful sunsets.
We are most grateful for the loving care he received from his caregivers: Angie, Benita, Brittany, Cheryl, Keisha and Marion.
A Visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL 32503, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:30 PM.
