Concha was born in Cavite City, Philippines on August 23, 1928. Her maternal grandparents were Segundo Dizon and Apolonia Blanco. Her parents were Yan Wong (1892-1933) and Concepcion Dizon (1905-91). Siblings: Frederico (1926-79), Marcia (1927-2018), Caridad (1931), Elena (1932), Ricardo (1935-2017), Jose (1938-2015), Estelita (1940-42) and Jaime (1946-2018). During the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1942, Concha, Caridad and Elena evacuated with their Aunt Carmen Dizon from Cavite City to relatives in Masantol, Pampanga. The rest of the family who were living in Manila evacuated to Laguna Province. Everyone eventually returned to Cavite when it was safe. After the war, she worked as a tailor in Manila before emigrating to America in 1974. While working at the US Naval Base in Norfolk, VA she met and married August (Gus) Miller, a retired Navy Commander, in 1979. They lived in Mystic, CT until his death in 1983. Shortly after, she moved to Pensacola, FL where she spent the rest of her long life close to family. Her family and relatives lovingly called her by her Chinese nickname, Pan.
She was a sweet and gentle soul, though very independent and strong-willed at times. We will miss her peaceful presence and quiet giggles. We are comforted in knowing that she is reunited with her many siblings and her parents, but most of all, her beloved Gus.
