Corey Walterson passed away on March 4th, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born to Maelene Walterson and Daniel Lee Weeks on May 25th, 1971, and was raised by loving parents Shirley Mae Phillips Walterson and Hampton Arthur Walterson in Key West, Florida.
Corey went to Key West High School where he met and married his life-long sweetheart, Lisa. They were married in 1987. Corey joined the army in 1995, going into the infantry and later reclassed as Military Police. He used his military career as a stepping-stone to join the Bureau of Prisons at FCI Manchester as a correctional officer in 2000. He then became the first in his family to earn a degree in Computer Information Technology and Systems Management while juggling his family and BOP career. He used that degree to finish his career as an IT Manager. After raising their family in Lisa’s hometown of London, Kentucky, they moved to Pensacola where he took a job at FPC Pensacola.
Family meant everything to Corey, and that included all the family he gathered along the way. Friends, neighbors, his FCP Pensacola family, his FCI Manchester family, the “Coffee Crew”, and many others. He was a devoted father who found abundant joy in spending time with his daughters, by sitting between their rooms and telling them his childhood stories when they were younger or raptly sitting through endless shows of “look what I found at the store today” when they were older.
Perhaps his favorite person to spend time with, was his loving wife, Lisa Walterson. After moving to Florida, they spent countless hours on the beach together, watching the sun rise or set and enjoying each other’s company. Corey was an incredible storyteller, and regardless of the subject matter, he was always sure to bring a smile and laugh to your day. He was intelligent, imaginative, abundantly kind, and left a special mark on everyone who came to know him.
Corey is survived and missed by, in his words, his “hot” wife Lisa Walterson, his daughters Ariana and Amber Walterson, his step-mother Sylvia Weeks, his step-father Michael Wontor, his sister Carol Stroud and husband Tim, his brother Billy Molina and wife Crystal, his sister Crystle Molina-Cooper and husband Gabriel, his sister Allison Wontor, and his cousin who was as close as a brother Adam Walterson and wife Heather.
Corey is preceded in death by his parents Hampton and Shirley Walterson, his father Daniel Lee Weeks, his mother Maelene Walterson-Wontor, his brother Charles Walterson and wife Arla, and his grandparents Tom and Faye Weeks.
We want to take a moment to thank everyone for all the kind words, prayers, and assistance during these difficult times. Corey was loved deeply as evidenced by all of you, thank you!
