Dan'yl "Danny" Charles Thomas Gent, age 59, of Pensacola, Florida lost his battle with Liver cancer on Thursday November 15, 2018, he was surrounded by his family and Pastor Ron Lentine. Danny was born in Pensacola, Florida on November 17, 1958 to Charlotte and John Thomas Gent Jr.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Carol A. Gent; his son's Shawn (Michelle) Gent and Jonathan (Amanda) Gent; Grandson's Johnathan Neet and Gavyn Gent; his mother Charlotte (Gent) Clemons; sister Deborah (Sissy) Henson and life long friend, Jerrold (Skip) Henson; and his aunts, JoAnn Rooker, Shirley Murphy, Linda Jackson, Aiga Gent and Marie Gent.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Gent Jr. and his beloved Grandmother, (Granny) Ethel Jackson.
Danny proudly served his country right after high school in the United States Air Force for 8 years. After his discharge from the service, he returned to his hometown of Pensacola to be near his family.
He greatly enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons and young niece, Chloe McLamb. He also loved visiting his great nieces and nephews.
Most Saturday mornings he could found sharing breakfast with his wife Carol, followed by a stroll through the flea market, to visit with friends and seek out the latest bargains.
When the weather was nice, he loved fishing, even if the fish wasn't worth keeping. He just enjoyed the "fight of reeling them in". He loved to share the stories of fishing with his Granny when he was younger! He really had some great stories to tell about his fishing trips with Skip too!
If he could, Danny was always willing to help anyone out. Whether it was figuring out how to fix a car window, changing out an engine part, doing a little lawn maintenance or fine tuning the equipment, he was always willing to help a friend.
He also enjoyed helping to cook breakfast for the young Christian Athletes on occasion and he didn't mind helping in the kitchen for the "Fall Festivals".
He greatly enjoyed fellowshipping with his "Joy" Sunday School Class, he often said it fueled him up to get through his week.
Danny was a great cook, he was always looking to try something different. His favorite thing to cook was shrimp, whether it was fried, sautéed, grilled or boiled, he could always put a smile on his wife's face with shrimp.
In any given situation, you could always count on Danny to have a quote or his own saying that would leave a smile on anyone's face.
In the early years of his marriage to Carol, he loved to swing her around on the dance floor. He could "cut a rug" like not other. His love for dancing started as a young boy when he was active in "clogging", and when the disco era came along, he was a realm on the dance floor.
Danny loved the Lord and in his own quiet way he would encourage everyone to seek a close and personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.
We will all miss you Danny, but we know that Heaven has another angel to sing the Lord's praises.
The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Myrtle Grove Baptist Church Social Ministries or to the wonderful folks at Emerald Coast Hospice, who took such wonderful care of him in his final days.
