Our precious mother was born April 25, 1936 in Arlington, VA to the late James Gardner and Margaret V. Butler. She departed this life on August 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Gardner, Jr.
Mom retired from Giant Food after 25 years. She was resident manager at Coel Grant Higgs unassisted living facility prior to moving to Pensacola. She was a member of First Baptist Church Warrington in Pensacola, FL since 2011. Those who knew mom always recognized her as a sweet lady. We knew her as independent, strong, loving, giving, adventurous, stubborn and sassy. She had a way of letting you know how she felt about you. We would call her a bully.
Mom loved flowers and enjoyed receiving them, just because. Her favorite colors were orange and yellow. She also enjoyed traveling. She has traveled to Paris, Hawaii, Cancun, San Diego, CA, Jamaica and Aruba, to name a few. She went parasailing at 72 years old in Cancun Mexico. She wanted to water ski, due to her bad knees she was not able to. Instead, she was able to take a photo that made it look like she was on the water. In Aruba, she took a picture rubbing a tiger.
We were the loves of her life. She once said “the child I am talking to at the time is my favorite”. The memories of her life will forever remain in the hearts of her children: Willette Anderson, James (Margurite) Morris, Stephanie Washington, Mista Morris, Ronnie, and Traci (Robert) Clanton.
Grieving G-Mom – Tonyette (Donald) Haughton, William Lindsey, Stephanie Lewis, Tyree (LaTonya) Barbour, Nakiya (Lamar) Gourdine, Nathaniel (Niki) Ward, Keisha Ward, Alexis (David) Jeffries, D’Juan (Nicole) Barbour, Andre (Ahalm) Barbour, Melissa Morris, DeAndre Morris, Tamara Morris, Martin Morris, Ronald Morris, Jr. and Marques Patterson. Great Grandmother to 30, and Great-Great Grandmother to 6. Also grieving are church family, friends, cousins, aunt, and loved ones. The memories of her life will forever be remembered by her children.
