He graduated from Bucyrus High School before pursuing his engineering degree at Ohio State University.
Following his graduation, David enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for over twenty years as a flight engineer and instructor, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
David was a man of many talents and passions. A lifelong tinkerer, he enjoyed working on cars, often having several modification projects underway at once. He was an active member of classic car clubs, and his vehicles were featured in three films, a testament to his skill and dedication.
In addition to his love for cars, David had a keen interest in electronics and computers. He joined computer clubs, where he contributed to various projects and wrote code, always eager to learn and share his knowledge.
David was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. His family was always a priority in his life.
He is survived by Charlotte Cotner, his son, Jay (Andrea) Cotner, his nephew, Larry Cotner II, his niece, April (Cotner) Counts, his nephew, Chris Cotner, his niece, Jane Stackhouse, his niece, Karen Mizell, and his brother, Larry (Jackie) Cotner
David was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Joe Cotner.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember his generosity, curiosity and love of life.
A private Memorial Service will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
