Alex grew up in Pensacola and Lower Alabama. He was born at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola and graduated from Escambia High School in 1986 before serving six years in the United States Air Force.
After leaving the Air Force, Alex earned his CDL and spent several years driving over the road. He eventually settled back in Pensacola, where he worked for several local trucking companies. For a time, he also worked for Peoples Water Company. In recent years, he proudly helped care for the bunnies of Fat Fairy Farm.
Alex was an avid gardener and enjoyed NASCAR and Alabama college football, just like his Momma.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Caro1 Meszaros Youngblood, and by his maternal and paternal grandparents of the Youngblood and Meszaros families.
He is survived by the Hullenbaugh household, his chosen home and family of 26 years – his soulmate, Jamie; his best friend, George; and their children, all adults now. Please know that he loved them all through the good times and the hard times. Just remember: if he adopted you along the way, you were in his heart forever–especially his adopted grandbabies, Juno and Bug.
Per his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Phil’s Friends at philsfriends.org. They are a wonderful organization that helps cancer patients have a gentler time during treatment.
To the members of the Baptist Oncology Department: know that each of you is fondly thought of for standing beside him during his journey with non-small cell lung cancer.
Hail the Traveler, Alex.
Cancer is one hell of a battle.
Know that Mandy has told the bees.
