Donald Adams

Don and his sisters, Jenny and Patty, lived in Moscow in the 1950s while his father was an Air Force Attaché in Russia. He told interesting stories about his time there, including having the honor of holding the American Flag out of an Embassy window during May Day celebrations. He also almost caused an International Incident after trading some Russian Young Pioneers a cap gun for a powerful rubber band powered nail gun. When the cap strip ran out, Don and his friends had to dodge a hail of nails over the Embassy Wall. After moving back to the states, Col. Adams was stationed at several air bases and his family with him. Don graduated from Bellevue High School near Omaha, Nebraska and then received his Batchelor’s Degree from Florida State University.

While there, Don met Patricia Givens on a blind date, and she became the love of his life. After Graduating from Florida State, Don joined the Air Force in 1968 and became a pilot. He completed his pilot training at Craig Air Force Base in Alabama and flew KC-135 Stratotankers while serving in Vietnam.

After discharge from the Air Force, Don and his family moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he began his graduate studies in Political Science and Social Science at The Florida State University. After getting two Master’s Degrees, Don became a Disability Examiner for the State of Florida, retiring in 2004.

After retirement, Don and Patty moved to Pensacola where Don renewed his hobby of Amateur Radio Operator. His call sign was N4BWV, and he enjoyed making contact with people all over the world.

Don is survived by his wife, Patty, his daughter, Elizabeth Walker (Dexter) and his sons Bill Adams (Kendra) and John Adams. He is also survived by his sisters, Jenny Taylor and Patty Fyke (Robert). Don is survived by many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews he enjoyed taking fishing in the bays and bayous of Florida over the years. He was predeceased by his parents and two grandchildren, Allison Delaney Walker and William Emerson Adams.
