Donald G. Gascoigne joined his wife in Heaven on January 30, 2023. He was born on December 18, 1930, in Wichita, Kansas to Kenneth F. Gascoigne and Thelma Robinson. He graduated from Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas in 1954 and joined the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduation. Prior to reporting for his first assignment, Donald married Ruth J. Hille. Ruth and Don were married for 67 years. He served 23 years in the Marines, fought during the Vietnam War with VMA-311 and flew 167 combat missions. His final assignment was at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The highlight of his career, according to Don, was as the Commanding Officer, VMA-211.
When he retired, Don moved his family to Overland Park, Kansas, where he was employed with the Norton Candy Company. Once he fully retired, he spent his time enjoying his passion of golf, along with visiting his children and grandchildren. Even though his family was his first love, he was extremely proud of his hole in one and once being the caddy for Bobe Hope.
Upon the death of his wife, Don moved to Pensacola, Florida. He divided his time between Pensacola and San Clemente, California.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth H. Gascoigne.
He is survived by his four children, Kenneth (Bill) and his wife Linda, Amy and her husband Robert, Donald (Ward) and his wife Linda, and Katherine (Kate) and her husband Mark. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Fisher, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
There will be a private service at Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, February 27, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Veterans Memorial Park in Pensacola, Florida.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Blake at Pensacola, Florida and Covenant Hospice for their amazing care and compassion for our father.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BayviewFisher-PouChapel.com for the Gascoigne family.
