Wayne, So sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. I can tell from the condolences that she was a wonderful woman. I am sorry I did not know her. You will be blessed with your memories of her.

It was nice being with your mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother for one Christmas dinner I especially enjoyed in your home a couple of years ago. Dorothy Laverne Burkett was a wonderful person with a sweet, touching personality. May your hearts be filled with great memories of a life well lived.

Wayne and Mary, my girls and I will miss Grandmother tremendously; but I am so very thankful for the 35+ years of our merged families. What wonderful memories we all have! Grandmother loved her family so much, but she loved her Lord even more. None of us can help but be sad, but only because we miss her. We know that she is so happy, pain free, reunited with Grandaddy, and absolutely beaming! I love my Burkett family.

One Sunday morning, 35 years ago, my daughter, Mechelle rode a church van to Sunday School with a neighborhood friend.  When she came home, she begged me to go with her the next Sunday, but only if I rode on the church van with the nice lady and man.  Well, I did go with Mechelle the next Sunday and rode the church van and met 2 of the most wonderful, loving people named Joe and Laverne Burkett who later became Brother and Sister Burkett to me and my family.  My life was never the same after I started attending Pensacola Baptist Temple and Brother and Sister Burkett were my first friends there.  Both Brother and Sister Burkett worked jobs but they were also in the ministry.  They spent their time ministering to others.  We will never know on this side of heaven just how many lives their lives touched.  I want to cry when I think of how much I loved the two of them...I can't think of one without thinking of the other, but I am also so happy to think about the two of them together again and with their Lord and Savior.  Their example of "talking the talk" and "walking the walk" will alway be an inspiration to me and my family.  Wayne, Mary, Tina and Tony, you all are so blessed to have had them for parents and grandparents.  Not many people have such a blessing.  You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of grief.

My dear Aunt LaVerne...a true Christian and an angel on earth.. Many, many memories, know she is without pain now and with the Lord and she and Uncle Joe are laughing and walking free.......no pain...

Wayne, I am one of the children who was blessed to have your mother a part of my life at Pensacola Baptist Temple.  She was my Sunday School Teacher, helped and encouraged me in the church bus ministry, and as a teenager both of your parents took me with them to visit younger children.  An angel on earth is now an angel in Heaven and her memory will forever be a blessing.

My condolenses to her family.  Laverne and her husband Joe are long time friends who both gave a clear testimony of saving faith in Jesus Christ. She was a great example of living a victorios Christian life in spite of physical pain.
