Edna Ruth Green passed away peacefully with her husband and family members at her side on September 23, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital at 84 years of age in Pensacola, Florida. Ruth was born on June 10, 1930 in Soso, Mississippi where she grew up with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Though Ruth had a dainty side to her, she grew up enjoying rural outdoors fishing, horseback riding and even flying a small plane. She was one of the youngest teenagers earning a pilot’s license.
Ruth was very proud to earn her nursing degree at Mississippi Baptist Nursing School in Jackson, Mississippi. Throughout her life, she practiced nursing for nearly 30 years and retired from Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida after caring for many geriatric patients. After retiring from nursing, she and her husband, Tom Green, volunteered at Our Lady of Haven of Peace, Catholic Charities, and Habitat for Humanity. She also enjoyed hosting many family celebrations at her home for her extensive family.
Ruth is survived by Tom Green, husband of 38 years; and her children, Chris (Peggy), Tommy, Peter (Yvette), Teresa (Rick), Aggie (Ed), Fran, Monica (Barry), and daughter-in-law Tammy; grandchildren, Vanessa, Racheal, Kathy, Jennie, Charles, Lauren, Lindsey, Zach, Julian, Mary Catherine and Ian; great grandchildren, Arwyn, Dallas, Calvin, Kayla and Clinton. She was looking forward to the birth of her sixth great grandchild expected in December.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and son, Joseph Patrick Daly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
