

Edward Joseph Feeney was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 31, 1933. He was the youngest son of Michael J. Feeney and Bridget Devaney Feeney. Eddie, as he was known to his friends and family, attended St John’s University in Brooklyn, New York and St. Joseph’s College in New Jersey. He began his career as a Naval Aviator in 1952 and married Naval Nurse Eleanor Theresa Hanley at Sangley Point in the Philippines on February 27, 1960. His last duty assignment and major command was with the Antarctica Development Squadron. During the course of his U.S. Naval career, Lt. Commander Edward Feeney was awarded the Air Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Antarctica Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, National Defense service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Notably, a six nautical mile long, mainly ice free crest in the Wilson Hills of Antarctica is named Feeney Ridge to honor and commemorate Lt. Commander Edward Feeney's remarkable career. He retired from the Navy in 1975.
Eleanor and Eddie moved to Pensacola in 1970 and have resided there ever since. Eddie has been an active and devoted member of the Catholic Church, a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid golfer.
Edward Feeney was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor Hanley Feeney as well as by his nieces and nephews including Fran Hanley, John Hanley, Mary Ann Feeney Spinner, Barbara Hanley Kramer, Loretta Feeney Garvey, Thomas Gall and Kelley Gall D’Olivo as well as their spouses and children.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be recited at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Pensacola. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
