Elisa “Ely” Mendez Corkins, 90, died Saturday, March 30, 2019. Ely was born September 11, 1928 in Romblon, Philippines to Rosendo Mendez and Victoria Muro Mendez. She moved to Pensacola from Alexandria, Virginia. Ely was a midwife, seamstress and artist. She worked at a seamstress at Ordon’s Menswear and was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Ely was a member of the Fil-Am Association of Pensacola where she was the runner up in the Mrs. Philippines Pageant in 1997. Ely is a member of two prayer groups at Little Flower Catholic Church and a choir member of the same groups. Her activities are that of singing at funerals and helping at several religious activities. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Corkins; parents, Victoria Muro and Rosendo Mendez; sisters, Miriam Marquez, Ruth Montejo and Pilar Mayor. Ely is survived by her friend and caregiver, MaryAnn Niemann; special nephew, Jimmy Marquez; special niece, June Mayor and numerous other nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 06, 2019 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 05, 2019 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Highway is entrusted with arrangements.
