Ernest Eugene Gehrdes, 93, of Pensacola, passed away on August 20, 2025. Born July 22, 1932, and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was a graduate of Purdue University and served in the United States Navy as an aviation maintenance officer from 1952-1972, including a tour aboard the USS Independence to Vietnam. He met Jo Ann Houseman at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, and they were married for 68 years. They had two daughters, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was a longtime volunteer in the United Methodist Church as a part of United Methodist Men, a counselor for youth activities, and a lay leader.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; his daughters Deborah Walker (Frank) and Dianna Lippincott (Thomas); his grandchildren, Rebecca Walker Morley (Dustin), Lydia Amanda Walker, Megan Lippincott Sblendorio (Jacob), Martin Lippincott; his great-grandson, James Morley. They love their “Poppa Ernie” and look forward to being reunited on the other side of eternity.
