Ethel Mae Ard, 97 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at her home. Ethel was born in McGargyle, Alabama to William and Laura Johnson on October 23, 1915. She was raised in McGargyle along with her sister Ruth and brother Clyde. Ethel met and married her beloved husband, Oliver, and traveled the world with him and their young son, Clayton, eventually making their home in Pensacola. She was a business woman most of her adult life and retired at the tender age of 85. Ethel was a member of the First Assembly of God.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, William and Laura Johnson, her sister, Ruth Rutherford, her brother, Clyde Johnson., and her husband, Oliver Ard.
Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter in law, Clayton and Kathy Ard, her granddaughter, Jenna Ard, and her grandson, Jeremy Gorday. Ethel is also survived by her nephews, Clyde Johnson, Jack Johnson, and her nieces, Diane Hartley, and Sandra Casler, all of whom she dearly loved. Her extended family included many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to her nephew, Clyde, who tirelessly took such special care of Ethel, her nurse from Covenant Hospice, Sylvia Stock, and her much loved caregiver, Rose Justice.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ard will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 am at Bayview Memorial Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Bayview Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Ard will be her grandson, Jeremy Gorday, her great nephew, Clyde Johnson, Robert Jones, Robbie Weber, Greg Beck, and John Casler.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL.
