I am so sorry to learn about Ethel 's passing.  She was the most precious lady I have ever known.  Although had not been in touch in years I will always love.  She was my adoptive mom at a very impressionable time in my life.  Love to her family.

My heart is heavy & I'm numb just knowing my precious Auntie Ethel is no longer with us.  It simply is heartbreaking.  I still remember the 1st time I met Ethel.  That was in late 1959 or early 1960.  She came to California for a visit with her brother, my father, Dewey Jones and our family.  At that time she was married to John Jackson.  I remember she had a cast on her leg; she had broken it playing softball.  John flew into San Diego to meet her & they departed to Okinawa for John's tour of duty along with Velvet, her beloved dachshund in tow.  I was probably about 8 years old.  Even @ that young age, she made such an imprecation on me.  She was fun & very free spirited, I have always admired her.   I think E was in her real early 20's @ that time.  
We had some parallels in our career choices; I was a long time federal government employee as she was in D.C.  She was a main frame computer operator, & I was also in the data processing field.  We both also worked for grocery wholesale warehouses, she in Pensacola; I in San Diego, CA.  Over the years we had developed a real kinship.  I visited her numerous times in Pensacola as I could.  RIP, my precious Auntie Ethel…I have so many found memories that no one can ever take from me.

ETHEL'S EARS SHOULD HAVE BEEN BURNING ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. I REMEMBER HER TELLING A STORY OF HER VACATION IN SAN DIEGO WHEN I WAS JUST A KID ~ WE HAD ALL GONE TO THE BEACH IN CORONADO AFTER THE PARADE DOWN ORANGE AVENUE AND BEFORE THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY THAT EVENING. IT WAS COOL AND OVERCAST THAT DAY, JUST LIKE IT WAS ON THE 4TH THIS YEAR IN CORONADO.   DURING THE PARADE I TOLD MY FRIENDS OF THE COMMENT ETHEL HAD MADE MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO:

"THE COLDEST WINTER'S DAY I EVER SPENT WAS UNDER THE PICNIC BLANKET AT CENTER BEACH IN CORONADO ON THE 4TH OF JULY!"

I GUESS YOU COULD SAY, "SOME LIKE IT HOT" AND THAT WOULD BE AUNTIE E. FUNNY, I'LL TAKE ALL THESE COOL AND OVERCAST DAYS I CAN GET ~ SOON ENOUGH ~ EVEN IN CORONADO ~ IT'S GONNA BE TOO HOT FOR ME.
ETHEL AND I WERE ON THE SAME PAGE POLITICALLY AND I ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO THE JOKES AND MESSAGES SHE WOULD SEND ON THE COMPUTER.  SHE DIDN'T COMMENT MUCH ON HER PERSONAL LIFE BUT WAS LOTS MORE OPEN ABOUT OTHER ISSUES AND CURRENT EVENTS.
I'LL MISS EXCHANGING WITH HER ON THE COMPUTER AND I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY SHE EXTENDED TO THE JONES FAMILY WHEN WE STAYED WITH HER IN PENSACOLA.

My name is Mary Vanderford from Tampa, Fl and I am one of Ethel's neices.  I too was very shocked to hear of my Aunt Ethel's passing.  The last time I spoke with her was in April after the passing of my grandmother. We were kind of a support team for each other when she was taking care of her sister (Aunt Laura) and I was taking care of my grandmother. I will always remember Aunt Ethel as a very fun loving person and I am going to miss her dearly. May you rest in peace Aunt Ethel and my condolences go out to the rest of her family members.

Jane, I am Ethel's cousin and I live in St. Louis but my sister and brothers and I still have the family farm in Union Chapel Alabama. We spend time there as often as possible.  When I was in college I spent time with Ethel and with relatives in Delaware.  I also worked at Eglin AFB Florida (Fort Walton Beach) and visited with Ethel during my time in Florida.  She was a wonderful and fun person.  I am shocked to learn that she is no longer with us.  We talked not too long ago about family and our ancestors.  I am the keeper of our Carson Lee family tree and she passed along very good info about her family.  She will be missed by her family but remembered for all the good times we had together.
