Eugene Robert “Popalop” Hansen, 81 of Pensacola passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of August 11, 2018. He was born April 15, 1937 to Sereno and Alice (Turney) Hansen in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 56 years Naomi Ruth (Yates) Hansen, brother Dean Hansen (Christi), mother-in-law Dorothy Yates and over 40 other immediate family members. His daughters are Tamara “Tammy” Hansen, Teddra “Becky” Biggs (Ken), Genia Taylor (Stephen), Sara Allison (Brian), and Dallas Hansen. His sons are Lewis Hansen (Gail) and Daniel Hansen (Kalena). Grandchildren are Beth Garthwait (Spencer), Aaron Hansen (Emily), Patricia Pope, Robert Taylor, Heather Pope (Jesse), Austin Dumas (Candice), Laura Lee (Steve), Leslie Hansen (Moises), Brianna Martratt (Austin), Katrina Layhew, Sabrina Hansen, Ashley Hansen (Ryan), Jacob Allison, Samantha Hansen and Kate Allison. Great Grandchildren are Mylee, Alexander, Braelyn, Emalee, William, Aaron, Whitman, Oliver, Alex, Noah and Tobias (due in October), along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Ronald Hansen, brother-in-law Ron Yates and father-in-law William Yates.
Eugene was honorably retired as a Chief Petty Officer on October 31, 1978, after proudly serving 22 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy. He ventured on to a second career, with Premier Beverage Co. where he worked 27 years before retiring in January 2006.
Popalop was loved and admired by family and friends, his warmth and kindness won’t be forgotten. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday August 18, 2018, at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church 5920 Lillian Highway, Pensacola, FL 32506. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00, with a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
