Eugene Weaver Smith

1935-2018

Eugene W. Smith, 82, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on 6/24/1935 and passed away on 2/9/2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary P. Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Danny) Stronko, his son, Larry (Robin) Smith, seven grandchildren: Mack Huggins, Jr., Brian Smith, Michael Huggins, Shannon Poole, Jessica Britt, Lauren Stronko and Ryan Stronko and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith enjoyed many years at Hubbard’s Landing with family and friends. He was an avid Florida State football fan. He started his career as an apprentice machinist in 1953 and retired as a general foreman toolmaker in 1987 at the Pensacola Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF). He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Spiegle Grove and retired from the Florida National Guard as a Lt. Colonel.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. A service will be held at Eastern Gate on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., followed by a committal service at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Ryan Stronko, Mack Huggins and Michael Huggins.
