Evelyn Cox

Evelyn Cox of Pace, Florida passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on January 16, 1941, in Pensacola, Florida. At 17, she married Wayne and they lived the military life—moving often, but they always came back to Pensacola to be near her parents and family.

Evelyn loved going out to eat and going on trips with her Golden Girls. She attended Brentwood Assembly of God Church where, in her younger years, she sang in the choir and she and her husband ran the food pantry.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Eva Scott; her sister, Leona Rich; her brother-in-law Calvin Rich; her sister-in-law Teddy Scott; and her beloved husband, Wayne Cox.

Evelyn is survived by her brothers: John and Roy (Gale) Scott, her daughters, Lisa Cox and Teresa Stubbs (Edward Ramos); her grandchildren: Victoria Delgiudice, Ashley (Philip) Lyon, Wesley (Peyton) Chance, and Jennifer Harrington (Paul Murph); and her great grandchildren: Natalie, Angel, Harper, McKenzie, Ava and Presley.

In retirement, Evelyn enjoyed the RV life with Wayne if he wasn’t driving the motorhome. He drove with the motto “If I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist”. However, Evelyn and many roof eaves would beg to differ. For a short period of time, she also enjoyed riding on bike trails with her grandchildren until an unfortunate incident where she ended up waiting in a ditch with her bike on top of her while her grandchildren finished the trail. Upon completion, they realized Memaw was no longer with them. They had to ride back to the beginning of the trail where they found her. Needless to say, the grandchildren are lucky to be alive and that was the last time Memaw rode a mountain bike. After Hurricane Ivan in 2004, Evelyn and Wayne ditched the motorhome life and moved in with Teresa where they lived until their respective passings.

A visitation for Evelyn will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534. A funeral service with committal prayer will occur Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534.
