Evelyn Sue Hamrick, 80, passed from this life on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Don Hamrick, her parents, Jack and Auda Walters, and by her brother Jack Walters. She is survived by her son, Scott Hamrick, grandson, Daniel Hamrick, brother, Terry Walters, sister-in-law, Marcie Walters, and by nieces Linda Browning and Donna Bumgardner, and nephews Larry Bumgardner and Bryan Walters.
Sue lived a life of service to others, especially the elderly and the dying. She spent many years as a volunteer for Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, and she was a Long Term Care Ombudsman for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs while living in Jacksonville.
Faith in Jesus Christ was central to her life. She was always kind and generous, frequently offering help and encouragement to those in need. Even in her last days, she complimented and encouraged the nurses who attended to her.
The daughter of a US Air Force pilot, Sue was born in San Antonio, Texas and lived primarily in Texas, California and Florida. She also lived for a shorter periods in Connecticut and the United Kingdom. She and her husband were avid travelers and visited numerous locations, including Turkey, Peru, Alaska and all over the Caribbean. Sue studied at Abilene Christian College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Pepperdine University. She worked as a commercial flight attendant, legal secretary, and as a high school teacher before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.
A visitation will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 12-1 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. located at Pace Church of Christ in Pace, FL. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
