Fernando Luis Colon, Sr., was born July 11, 1931, in Villalba, Puerto Rico. He was a resident of Pensacola, Florida since 1958. He passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2026, at the age of 94. He married the love of his life, Judy Merritt Colon, on January 16, 1958, and they were married for 63 years.
Preceded in death by his father, Raimundo Colon, his mother, Josefa Gomez Colon, 1 granddaughter, Angeline Trahan, his wife, Judy Merritt Colon, and his sisters, Gladys Colon Mayoral and Illa Pietri.
Fernando is survived by 4 sons: Fernando Colon, Jr. (Kathi); Carlos Colon (Sandra); Victor Colon (Mina); Gary Colon (Renee); and 1 daughter, Michele Colon Trahan (Skip). 9 grandchildren: Crissy Goodmiller, Christopher Colon, Catie Colon Goodwin (Trae), Brandon Colon, Camille Colon Whitfield (Caleb), Jillian Colon, Austin Trahan, Caleb Colon (Madison), and Joey Trahan. 10 great-grandchildren: Ember Colon, Thessaly Goodmiller, Patrick Ward, Cameron Goodwin, Calliope Goodmiller, Kelli Goodwin, Jordan Whitfield, Jake Whitfield, Charlotte Colon, and Amelia Colon. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Fernando was a devoted husband and father. He served active duty in the United States Navy from 1955-1959, then served in the Navy Reserves from 1959-1963. He was employed by the U.S Civil Service for 30 years until his retirement. Fernando enjoyed saltwater fishing, coaching little league baseball, traveling, cruising, and he loved to watch western movies. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2026 followed by services at 11:00 a.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Colon, Joey Trahan, Caleb Whitfield, Bruce Merritt, Jr., Joshua Morrison and Steve Merritt.
