Maier entered this world in a large and bold way on July 10, 1984, weighing 10 lbs, ½ ounce, and he lived his life the same bold way until he was suddenly and tragically taken from us on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Maier was 32 years young.
He was born to Cynthia Baggett Edgar, who affectionately called him her “Maier Bear”, and Forrest (Pete) Edgar who still thought of him as his baby boy. He was the light of their lives. In addition to being their heart and soul, Maier was also their best friend and perfect business partner. His sister, April,(whom he always and to this day referred to as Kunq) at six years old, believed she was his second mother and continued to think that the rest of their lives. They were linked at the heart and leaned on each other always. What one couldn’t solve, the other could.
Along the way, Maier met and had many close friends that remain in his life now and many new ones that he met daily. He loved them all dearly. If you were around Maier and he had a dollar, ten dollars, a hundred dollars or more, you had it too. He gave freely from his heart and his resources.
Maier graduated from Escambia High School in 2002, where he played football for the Gators under legendary Coach “G”. He was an avid hockey fan and played with the Jr. Ice Pilots. He made the All Florida team and went to the playoffs in Toronto. He also made Team South and traveled to play in Detroit, Michigan. He also played roller hockey with the Rolling Thunder.
He obtained his real estate license at the age of 18 and began to sell homes. He graduated from UWF with a degree in Building and Engineering. He obtained his Certified Home Builders License in the State of Florida and the State of Alabama. He partnered with his Dad to form Forrest Homes and Steel Construction, Inc., where they have built hundreds of home and worked on many apartment complexes. He was a member of the Pensacola Board of Realtors, as well as the Florida Home Builders Association.
Maier was very driven and worked diligently for each and every one of his clients. He was a one-of-a-kind builder that took to his heart his client’s wishes and needs. He tried to make their every dream come true. Beginning at the age of 12, with his mom’s assistance, he mowed lawns, planted flower beds and helped clean up job sites. At the age of 16, he began framing houses with his soon-to-be superintendent and partner, JoJo (Calvin Pouncey).
In 2004, he met the love of his life and soul mate, Melanie Swayne. Melanie completed Maier’s life, and on Memorial Day, 2006, they were married in a beautiful ceremony in the mountains of Helen, Georgia, where a host of family and friends were gathered to watch them ride into the sunset in a horse-drawn Cinderella carriage. Melanie was the rose in Maier’s garden of brick and mortar. She brought into their marriage a beautiful 8-year old daughter, LeeAnn, who Maier adopted in his heart and became her “Dad”. LeeAnn bestowed the most priceless of honors on Maier when she asked him to walk her down the aisle to marry her soul mate, Shay Oakley. Maier and Melanie are also blessed with two other princesses. Meadow, a ray of sunshine to everyone, who gave her Daddy endless hugs and kisses, and Ellie, the curly haired baby doll. Maier often said he was living in a castle full of princesses. Maier also cherished his niece, Willow, who is Ellie’s playmate. He did, however, have a young prince, in the form of Astley Devoe Blackwell V (Quent), whom he loved like a son. Quent was often heard saying, “I’m going to Uncle Bubba’s”. Quent’s Dad, Astley Devoe Blackwell IV, came into Maier’s life when he was only 9 years old. He taught Maier many life lessons along the way, and they remain brothers at heart to this day. In Astleys own words “It’s not the years you live but the life you lived in those years you had. Maier lived more in 32 years than most people live in 92. I live in awe of his life and what he accomplished in those years. He‘s like no other. He packed a strong punch in so many ways. I Love you Brother more than words can say.”
Maier was proceeded in death by 3 siblings:”Petey” Forrest Beasford Edgar III,(10), Charles “Brett” Edgar (21) and Kimberly Lassister (45). His cousins Tony Farrington and Jeffrey Edgar. His grandfather Forrest Beasford Edgar Sr. (Pat). His uncle Jerry Edgar and his Granny, Mary Lee Gulledge, that made him many pound cakes…we know she has one waiting when he arrives.
He is survived by Mom Cynthia (Cindy) Baggett Edgar, his Dad (Pete) Forrest B Edgar, his sister April Elizabeth Blackwell, his loving wife Melanie Edgar and their children, who were Maier’s very heart and soul, Destiny LeeAnn Oakley and husband, Shay Oakley, Meadow Diane Edgar and Ellie Marie Edgar, his constant German Sheppard K9 companion Heineken “Heinz” Edgar, who met him at the door and could not stop licking and loving on him.
