Frank Leon Horn, age 83 was a respected and loved man by many in our community. In 1957, this New York sailor while stationed here in Pensacola met his love, Native Pensacolian, Theresa Vignolo. They were married in July 1958. During their 62 years of marriage they had 5 children. Opal (David) Gunn of Pensacola, Frank Horn Jr of Pensacola, Joe Horn of Hawaii, Bill (Shari) Horn of Pensacola and Patrick Horn of Texas. Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Frank's older brother, Joe Horn of Huntington West VA. Frank has a very large extended family of nieces and nephews all over the United States.
In addition to being a Korean War Veteran, Mr. Horn was a very dedicated hard worker for Ameri Gas (fomerly Veterans Propane) for over 25 years. Before that time he worked as an over the road truck driver and in construction. He worked on such projects as George Stone and the odd looking building at Pensacola State College.
Frank enjoyed life to the fullest with his sense of humor and the willingness to give a hand to anyone. He never knew a stranger. During his life he was an outstanding citizen of Pensacola. In his younger years he was very active in Boy Scouts, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Past President and Past Lt Governor for the North Pensacola Optimist Club, and Santa Claus for the West Gate Elementry. Frank had many volunteer hours in different fundraising events to better our community.
Besides the love for his community and family, he enjoyed camping and traveling to see his children/grandchildren/ brother and playing in Cribbage Tournaments. Frank was an active member of American Congress of Cribbage (ACC). Frank played in tournaments in Missouri, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada and Illinois with his wife Theresa, daughter Opal and son Joe on occasions as his partner. Frank wanted to share his passion for this “old sailor” game with people and bring life back to this game. With the help of his wife Theresa and daughter Opal they started several Grass Roots cribbage clubs. One being in Missouri and one locally the Pensacola Peggers Club 396. During his time as a grass roots member in competitions he has won awards for three (3) 29 hands, scored many 28 high hands, several string of pearls and perfect scoring cards. For the season of 2014-2015 ACC awarded Frank the Bronze Award for attaining 1000 points in a scheduled Grass Roots competition. Frank continued to play this game until the final week of his life. We are sure he has reunited with his cribbage buddies in the best games ever and continues to “skunk” his friends.
Frank was very proud of his wife, his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. He gave to his community and he instilled that value into his family. Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and will be greatly missed, but his sense of humor and enjoyment of life will remain bright and shinning for eternity.
