Fred was born in Kentucky and began working at the age of 15 as a “Cabin Boy” as a Merchant Marine. His love of the water never left despite surviving a torpedo attack while serving aboard the USS Malchace on April 9, 1942. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945 Fred continued to serve the community through the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, and as a Magistrate hearing civil cases. Fred was an entrepreneur, a small business owner, a father, friend, husband, water, sun, and animal lover. His love of life found the best in every situation and a desire to invest and improve himself and others. He is survived by daughters and sons in law Sonia Wells, Shawn and Shelia Watkins, and Richard and Susan Worsley, grandsons Brandon, Michael, and Joshua Jensen and wife of four years Ella Brickman Herron. The gift of his wisdom, wit, and belief that the best years are ahead concluded this 98-year legacy with the expectation that we embrace what we cannot change. A gentle reminder that the sun provides light even on a rainy day. Our job is simply to plan how to enjoy it.
Visitation for Mr. Herron will be held at 10:00 AM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel in Pensacola followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM in Bayview Memorial Park. Saturday, September 29, 2018.
