April 17, 1926 – October 4, 2026
Geneva Clearman Harris, born April 17, 1926, was the daughter of Ruth Almeda Coon and James Dollar Clearman. She was one of six children, growing up alongside W. Marvin Hughes, W. Leslie Clearman, Ruby Day, Earl Clearman, and Earlene Bearden.
Geneva was married to Herschel Lewis Harris for 68 years. Together they raised six sons: Terry Lee, Jerry Leslie, Marvin Lewis, Tommy Lane, Donald Leon, and David Larry Harris. She was a beloved grandmother to 12 grandchildren.
Geneva worked in Civil Service in Selma, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida. Yet her work never kept her from what mattered most—her family. She created a home filled with laughter, food, fun, and memories for her children and grandchildren.
She was known for her gentle disposition. Those who knew her rarely, if ever, heard her complain.
Family memories of Geneva are abundant: Sunday meals with tables covered in bowls and platters of delicious food; summer days spent in the pool with children splashing about, ice cream sandwiches, cold watermelon, and wet towels draped over chairs; and countless hours wrapping Christmas presents until hundreds of gifts filled the space around the tree.
Geneva loved her Lord and loved reading the Bible. Her well-worn Bible, filled with countless underlined verses, remains a reflection of a faith that was quietly woven into her life.
One of the family’s favorite memories came during the last year of her life. Geneva loved the word game Jumble. As her body became frail, family members would sit beside her and read the clues while she unscrambled the letters to find the answers. Her body grew weaker, but her mind remained sharp as a tack.
Geneva leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, faithful love, and a home where family was always welcome. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, friends are welcome to join the family for a visitation beginning at 10:30 am.
