I was George's  first instructor in the T-34B at Saufley Field in 1958 and he was one good student!!  God bless him!

George, even though over 3½ years have gone by since you passed away, I still think of you every once in awhile, especially when I do yard work for your next door neighbors in Camaloch, and whenever I go near your house on the golf course. You were the closest person to a grandfather that my older brother and I have ever known. Every Saturday at 10 AM I'd do yard work for you, and it was always a fun experience and a great opportunity to develop strong work ethic, and form a friendship with one of the kindest persons I've ever known. 
I will never forget the fun times and the day when we went to the Mariners game in Seattle. 
Just being able to work for you for 2 hours a week was a blessing. I wish I could work for you again, or swing by for a visit, even if it were for just ten minutes. Rest in peace George, I hope you made it home to Heaven.

I live right near Harvard University and knew. George when he lived here briefly.
His many accomplishments are dwarfed by the manner in which he carried himself.

George was in the 16th Co. and I was in the 24th Co. so we never met at USNA.  During early or mid 80's, George was living in Montecito and I was living in Hope Ranch (both in the Santa Barbara area).  We were even serving some Naval Reserve time in different units at Pt. Mugu, but still had not met.  During a trip back to my home state of WV, we stayed overnight in Fargo, ND.  The next morning when we crossed into Minnesota, we stopped at a rest center to get maps and information.  Casual conversation ended up with the recognition that we were classmates, and he was on his way to a high school reunion in Cincinnati. My active duty was a little over 6 years as a Supply Officer, but I had enough interest to become a Private Pilot in 1960.  I enjoyed tapping into his wealth of aviation knowledge and experience.  I was very sad to hear this news.

Dear George...ever smiling George. In the 50 years since we met I've seldom seen him when his glass was not more than half-full. Our last meeting was a three hour lunch a few years ago filled with happy memories of friends and times, and sad ones, too. I'll miss you. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

I met George at Patuxent River, He was a graduate of TPS  class 39, I was in class 38, we were both assigned to Carrier Suitability.  When George married Judy, I had the privilege and honor of being George's Best Man. 
All of us who have had the good fortune of being within the circle of George's friends know what a special person he was and what a good friend he could be. We always felt uplifted after receiving one of his phone calls.  
He leaves a huge void. 
We love and miss him and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
George, we wish you  plenty of end speed, blue skies, steady deck and OK 3's.

It was with heavy hearts that we recently learned of George's passing. He was a real friend for many years, a true gentleman in every sense of the word and  certainly a man made of all the "right stuff".

We will always fondly remember the good times at high school reunions in Cincinnati, golf outings in Palm Springs and especially the numerous informative and often witty emails over many, many years.

We were particularly appreciative that George became friends with our son Paul III who was a naval F-14 aviator. We were especially grateful for George's strong support when our son was deployed to Iraq. He was a true friend and will be greatly missed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to George's family at this time of your loss. May your many happy memories of this wonderful man give you comfort and courage as you continue to celebrate George's most meaningful life.

George was a dear friend and colleague at Northrop for many, many years.   After we both retired, we continued to correspond through email and share our adventures.  When Judy passed, George was beside himself.  He drove--alone--across the country from the Seattle area to the Boston area, where he settled for a while then moved to Pensacola to be near his friends, Phil and Nellie Wood.  George was proud of the fact that I used his name in my first novel, Stealth Gambit, to play Vice Admiral Myers, Dir. of Operations at the CIA.  He was a big fan of mine.  My sympathy to his family, whom he loved, and to his many other friends, especially those in the Navy.   We will all miss George very much.

It was a sad day when I learned of George's passing. He was a member of my Test Pilot Class (39) at the Naval Air Test Center in 1965 and also a classmate of my brothers at the Naval Academy, graduating in 1958. We kept in touch over the years via e-mail and he was always supportive of my requests for Rotary projects. He was a poster child for what you would expect in a Naval officer, professional, intelligent, thoughtful, and curious. There is no doubt he will be missed by the hundreds of friends he made over the years. The world is a little less livable!

George was a classmate of mine at the U.S. Naval Academy.  In fact we were both in the 16th Company.  George was an ideal classmate.  He was very bright and was always willing to help classmates like me with the tough academics there. I spent several hours under his tutelage. We always tried to insure that we would link up at Naval Academy Class Reunions. I will miss George and I extend my deepest condolences to his family. 

Ah George, You left us with 47 of years of very fond memories.
You were an officer, a gentleman and a scholar and a whole lot more.  You were a mentor, a team mate, but most importantly a friend.  The kind of friend everyone needs.  You played hard, you worked harder. To us you were family.

Our lives are better for having known you.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of George's demise.  We met in 1977 when I was a freshly minted Navy test pilot and George was a salty old pro at Northrop.  He treated me as an equal right from the start and certainly served as a great mentor.  Only a couple of years later we reconnected in the Navy Reserves at Point Mugu and have remained good friends ever since.  George was gracious, friendly, and always upbeat to all who knew him.  This world is a much better place because George lived here.  Fair winds and following seas my friend....

Very sorry to hear this news. George was a great friend from our days together in Flight Test at Edwards AFB when we both worked for Northrop and later when we both lived on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and when we saw each other at SETP symposia. Very good memories. One stands out.  I remember when we took the company Baron from Hawthorne for the short flight to Miramar NAS (San Diego) to brief Top Gun on F-5 fight characteristics. On our way back, we buzzed Black's Beach (famous California nude beach) twice at less than 50 feet. George definitely had a great sense of humor. Quality human being too. And great test pilot

This breaks my heart!  I was George's first flight instructor in the T-34B at Saufley Field in 1958.  John McCain was my student at the same time.  They were both good guys but one studied a bit harder.  Guess who?

George and I stayed close friends all these years in the desert, in Washington, by mail and finally email.  He was a warm and wonderful guy.  My wife and I will miss him so much.

May he always have "altitude below and runway ahead".

Susan and I were saddened and shocked to hear that our good friend and my Test Pilot School classmate had passed away. Having shared the travails of TPS, we always had much to talk about.  We were thrilled to receive a call from George one Saturday morning when we were living at NAS Point Mugu. George was being promoted to Captain and wanted to come to our house and have me swear him in. We each were able to pin on his eagles. What a great honor to be chosen for that duty! Throughout the years, as we and George moved about the country, we always kept in touch and got together whenever possible. We again were thrilled when we learned that he was moving to Florida where we routinely visit twice a year and we had hoped to visit him there. Our country has lost a fine citizen and the Navy has lost a fine officer. Fair winds and following seas, dear friend.

My wife and I met George at an alumni football party last Autumn.  He was such a wonderful, friendly gentleman, we quickly developed a very valuable friendship.  George and I discovered mutual aviation friends and always had so much to talk about.  It was always a great pleasure to see George and his dear friend, Jan, at social events.  We enjoyed their company immensely.  Although I only knew him for a few months, I will miss him very much.  My deepest sympathy to Jan and George's family.

I came to know George at Northrop Aircraft in 1981. Though I didn’t 
realize it at the time, he was mentoring me. Before I knew it, I had 
joined the Navy!

We stayed in touch over the years. His positive, upbeat demeanor will
always be a wonderful memory. George seemed to me to be one of 
those rare breeds that took a genuine interest in everyone he met on 
his journey.

I met George when he joined the US Naval Academy Alumni Association in Pensacola.  He and my dad both graduated in 1958.   George came over for dinner in January with his friend Jan.  We had a great time celebrating  my Dad's 85th birthday with another Academy alum and lots of "sea stories."  George was charming, funny, and a delight.  I will miss him.      I was so sad to hear about George's passing.  He and I first met by email last year when he relocated to Pensacola and was searching for information on the local Chapter of the US Naval Academy Alumni Association. What can I say?  We hit  it off right away, exchanging numerous messages, and I felt like I had a friend before I ever met him in person.  When I was setting up our Blue and Gold Dinner in March, I asked George and his friend Jan to join us at the head table because they are both such delightful people.  We all braved the last gathering before the COVID-19 shutdown, tapping elbows and saluting each other rather than shaking hands and hugging.                                                    
         On behalf of all Pensacola area USNA Alumni, I send our deepest sympathies to George's family and friends.  We send George off with the traditional Navy blessing of "fair winds and following seas."
