Hazel J. Dobyns, 77, of Pensacola died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born on August 3rd, 1940 in Eldorado, IL to Fred and Jewel Rice. She married Tom Dobyns Sr. on July 4th, 1958. He preceded her in death on April 6th, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Julie Ann in 1959, her father in 2002, mother in 2017 and sister Janet Eaton of Peoria, IL in 2012. Hazel is survived by her two sons: Tom Jr. (Yvonne) of Katy, TX and Rick (Jackie) of Pensacola and granddaughter Elizabeth Jewel Dobyns of Pensacola. Hazel and Tom made several moves with the U.S. Navy before settling in Pensacola in 1973. She supported her two sons during hundreds of ball games while building her career as a registered nurse. She received her degree in nursing from Bishop State College in Mobile, AL in 1979. She worked in all four of Pensacola’s hospitals (University, Baptist, West Florida, Sacred Heart) finally retiring as House Supervisor at Sacred Heart. She was passionate about her profession and built many long-lasting relationships within the nursing community. She spent her golden years with long-time friends Dianne Robbins, Edna Satterwhite, Joyce Hurley and Raye Ford shopping, watching soaps, gossiping and enjoying lunch outings. She adored her granddaughter Elizabeth and was looking forward to her becoming a doctor or lawyer – either would have been acceptable!
